Three UQDI researchers have recently been named as winners in their respective fields at multiple awards ceremonies during September.
At PA Week, held at The Princess Alexandra Hospital during mid-September, UQDI research officer Dr Tony Kenna and PhD student Kelly Brooks were both announced as Young Investigator of the Year awardees.
Dr Kenna won the Junior Scientist - Basic Science award, and Ms Brooks won the Student Scientist - Basic Research award at The 2011 Princess Alexandra Hospital Health Symposium. Both received educational bursaries for their achievements.
Kelly Brooks was also recently named the Women in Technology Career Start Award winner for taking out her category. Kelly received another educational bursary to go towards her research efforts.
Finally, Jana McCaskill was named as a Queensland finalist on Monday the 19th of September for the 2011 AusBiotech-GSK STudent Excellence Awards. Jana has been named as the State winner and will go on to compete in the national final in October in Adelaide.
Only one representative from each State goes through to the Australian final. The national winner will receive a $7,000 travel grant to be used to present their research at an international conference. The program aims to recognise and encourage promising research students and to raise awareness of research translation and appliations.
