Francis NonaFrancis Nona’s Bio: Francis Nona is a Torres Strait Islander currently employed in the School of Public Health at the University of Queensland, as lecturer and researcher. He grew up in Brisbane and Saibai in the Torres Strait and is an initiated Badulaig man. His work is informed by his strong cultural training, balanced with his role as a Registered Nurse. As a Registered Nurse, he had undertaken previous roles as Clinic Manager for an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service, working in residential aged care, rural hospital and youth detention centre. The research grants he is currently contributing to includes strategies to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing into the Public Health teaching curricula, food sustainability for people in the Torres Strait, the health impacts of climate change on people in the Torres Strait, community understanding of impacts of COVID19 on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and an evaluation of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthy lifestyle program.
