Professional Development programs

Enhancing the professional practise of teachers is essential to engaging students in STEM. SPARQ-ed provides a variety of opportunities including:

  • Twilight information sessions
  • Workshops—focusing on the suggested and mandatory pracs from the QLD Biology syllabus
  • VET Currency/Validation for schools offering Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement or Certificate III Laboratory Skills

Workshop participants will receive documentation suitable for use as evidence of Continuing Professional Development for the Queensland College of Teachers.

Regional Professional Development workshop

Time: 3.30 – 5.30pm
Location: Dalby State High School, 26 Nicholson St, Dalby QLD
Description: Teachers and Science Technicians in the Darling Downs South West region are invited to attend a SPARQ-ed Professional Development workshop on Bacterial Transformation.  Participants will transform bacterial cells with pGLO plasmid using simple biotechnology techniques. The results of the transformation are spectacular!  This workshop relates to Year 10 Science, Year 11 and 12 Biology, however could also be used as an extension activity for STEM specialist groups/classes. 
Number of participants: Limited to 32 pax
Cost: Free

Charged per participant:

  • Whole day workshop $75
  • Twilight session $20

Sessions may be conducted face-face or virtually, contact SPARQ-ed for more details.
